#polarvortex
Jan. 14th, 2023 11:53 amThe wxtxt peeps keep describing how the polar vortex will be disrupted later this month. With the temperatures being -80 degrees something in Siberia — anything less than -41 degrees C or F doesn't need units — it could make for an interesting February if that air escapes.
For illustration, the 3d diagram below should be circular. It isn't and represents the polar vortex being kicked really hard.
tldr: Incoming brrrr.
234 kHz Longwave
Jan. 14th, 2023 05:18 pmWith sadness I discovered that rtl is no longer transmitting on LW at 234 kHz. I've listened to them on and off on LW using a websdr.
I've mentioned it on my defunct blog in 2018:
ibob with the magic of websdr you can relive radio luxemberg — just tune to 234 am
One evening I was listening to it, where they decided to play Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon in it’s uncut entirety. Impossible in Canada to do, due to Canadian Content Laws.
I understand from European peeps this was a bit of a thing in the last century, along with pirate radio also. I was hoping to listen to it on my UK trip this spring, but no dice on that one.
